The Gwithian Sand Pit, also known as St. Gothian Sands, is located on the West Coast of Cornwall and is a Cornwall County Council owned reserve, which was officially opened in 2005.
The reserve was created when the old Sand works at Gwithian closed down leaving some great habitat, attractive to birds and other species. This habitat was enhanced with the creation of a large pool with an island and smaller pools to the north. All the pools are now fenced off creating a safe haven for wildfowl and waders.
