Seal Release

On the 10th of Februray 2010, I was lucky enough to witness, something that in my opinion was quite extraordinary. I was lucky enough to be on site at the time of a Seal Release from the Gweek Seal Sanctuary on the Gwithian Site.
There were 4 Seal pups being relased back into the wild, after what can only be describes as 'rehabilitation' in the Sanctuary, as it was quite clear to see that these Seals had been been rescued a little while ago, since being injured through looking after themselves from a young age, therefore having no experience in hunting for example.
The following images i shot using a Sony Alpha 200 using a 75mm-300mm lens, shooting with an aperture of f/5.6 with a shutter speed of 1/250 seconds and shooting at 100 ISO.

Since this experience I have since been in contact with the Seal Sanctuary at Gweek, and have established a working relationship with them. I will now be photographing a Seal release in the form of a photo essay, where by i will photograph every stage of the release, starting at the sanctuary with loading the seal, the transit of the seal, and the end when the seal is eventually released. I plan to shoot this essay on a 35mm film with some back up shots shot digitally.
